Website accessibility costs: compare the work, not just the price

A long issue list does not tell you how difficult the repair will be. The causes and the journeys people need to complete matter more.

A broken menu can appear throughout a website yet need one shared correction. A single booking form can combine several states, error messages and external systems. Counting pages alone can make very different proposals look comparable.

A useful scope starts with the existing technology and the journeys that matter: make contact, find a product, book an appointment or complete a purchase. Once the components and states are understood, implementation can be defined. The starting prices here are Steingraf Labs B2B offers in euros, not market averages.

An audit and a repair are different deliverables

An audit records findings, their impact and the pages or states examined. It does not itself fix the website. Remediation means changing code or content and retesting the affected journeys.

Ask whether the supplier will have source access, implement the changes, coordinate external components and document the result. A status badge without a reproducible finding gives the development team little to work with.

  • Report: what was examined, and how?
  • Implementation: who changes which components?
  • Retest: can the affected journey now be completed?

Components and states drive the work

Shared headers, navigation and forms can be useful starting points because one correction improves several pages. Different filters, dialogs and checkout steps need their own investigation.

Content matters too. Useful alternative text follows the purpose of an image rather than its filename. Videos, documents, embedded maps and external booking tools need separate attention. The project views in this guide illustrate different Lab interfaces, not completed accessibility audits.

  • Include empty, error and successful form states

When to improve an existing site and when to rebuild

If the platform is maintainable and the content useful, targeted improvements may be the sensible choice. Valuable URLs, working features and existing search signals do not need to disappear just because the design changes.

A new build can help when the existing structure cannot be changed reliably or no longer supports the purpose of the website. Content migration and redirects then need planning. Rebuilds require owned or authorised references; someone else’s text and images are not copied without permission.

What our starting packages cover

Targeted fixes for websites with up to 15 pages start at €389 excluding VAT. We agree the specific issues before starting, such as contrast, keyboard access or form labels.

Larger website improvement projects start at €579 excluding VAT. New website projects start at €1,490 excluding VAT, with responsive design, a simple contact form, technical SEO foundations and an agreed accessibility review.

Features and scope are agreed in writing before work begins. Shops, custom software, languages, media and integrations are described specifically in the proposal.

Plan for Google and ChatGPT without selling a ranking

A redesign should do more than change appearance. Important information needs to be reachable as text, internal links should lead to useful details and existing URLs need a deliberate redirect strategy. Metadata and structured data must match the visible offer.

These are technical and editorial foundations for search and AI services. They do not replace relevant content or control a provider’s decision about inclusion and presentation. A new build does not come with a guaranteed position or recommendation.

Agree acceptance around real journeys

Specify the pages and functionality to be examined before starting. Alongside automated findings, include the agreed manual checks: keyboard operation, focus management, magnification or completing a form with assistive technology.

A high Lighthouse score or an empty automated issue list alone does not establish complete conformance. Handover should make resolved findings, examined states and open issues traceable. Later content or feature changes may require another review.

What we need for a specific proposal

These details make the initial scope much easier to assess.

  • Website URL and current platform
  • Important user journeys and known issues
  • Representative page types, not just a total count
  • Available access and responsible contacts
  • Languages, PDFs, video and external services
  • Existing content and authorised design references
  • Expected implementation, retesting and handover

Understand the starting point before choosing the package

Send us the website and the goal. We will assess whether targeted fixes, refurbishment or a new build fits the work.
